Poland vs Netherlands Prediction Euro 2024
⚽ Football EURO 2024 Match Preview
⏰ 16 June 2024 - 14:00 GMT +1
🏟 Stadium: Volksparkstadion (Hamburg)
After just one group stage appearance in their previous four attempts at the European Championships, expectations are low for Poland at UEFA Euro 2024. Especially since they find themselves in a daunting Group D alongside Austria, France and today's opponents the Netherlands.
However, the Poles will take confidence from an eight-match unbeaten run (6 wins, 2 draws) stretching back to last September when Michał Probierz took over as manager. That sequence includes a nail-biting penalty shootout win over Wales to qualify for these finals. Today, they must show the same composure against the Dutch, who they have failed to beat in their last 12 head-to-head meetings (5 draws, 7 losses).
Probierz can call upon an experienced core including Wojciech Szczęsny, Kamil Grosicki and Robert Lewandowski. But the youthful exuberance of rising stars Nicola Zalewski and Jakub Kiwior makes Poland something of an unknown quantity.
According to Opta, the Netherlands rank as sixth favorites to lift the Henri Delaunay trophy, having previously won it in 1988. However, their preparations were rocked by injuries to key midfielders Teun Koopmeiners and Frenkie de Jong, who withdrew from the squad, though manager Ronald Koeman only called up Borussia Dortmund's Ian Maatsen as a replacement.
The Oranje have become draw-averse in recent years, with their last 17 results all being wins (11) or losses (6) - including the 14 matches under Koeman since he returned as manager in January 2022 (9 wins, 5 losses). As well as a lack of stalemates, late drama is almost guaranteed, with seven of their last eight games seeing a goal after the 80th minute.

📋 Players to watch: With Lewandowski out injured, Zalewski could be Poland's inspiration after netting the winner against Turkey and providing 3 assists in the 5-1 thrashing of Estonia in March. Memphis Depay scored in both 4-0 friendly wins for the Netherlands over Canada and Iceland this month and is now 5 goals shy of Robin van Persie's all-time record.
⚡Match Facts: The Netherlands have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 7 matches.
Poland vs Netherlands Prediction and Betting Tips
💡 While an upset cannot be ruled out given Poland's solid form, the Netherlands should still prevail in a tight contest, perhaps by a 2-1 or 1-0 scoreline. For betting, siding with the Dutch in the double chance market could be wise, combining them to win or draw. The under 2.5 goals also appeals given the likelihood of a cagey affair. Bolder punters could take a small stake on the 2-1 correct score.
